It was truly a pleasure to get to photograph this young couple in love.  While theirs was a small, intimate affair–an elopement from the cold winter air of Michigan–there was nothing small about the emotions between these two individuals in love.  Sara had one of the prettiest and most meaningful bouquets i’ve ever seen; she made it herself entirely from family heirlooms passed down through the family.  A small, chocolate-colored seagull at the Broadway Pier took quite a liking to all the sparkly-sparkly in her bouquet and didn’t hesitate to vocalize his lust for the precious, even as he followed us off the pier.

While we all, as wedding photographers, love the luxurious and lavish weddings, I’m sure I speak for my fellow photographers when I say that there’s nothing better than witnessing the magic between a couple in love unfolding in front of your lens.  Sara and Kenny, thank you guys for inviting me to photograph your intimate wedding;  I had a blast photographing the two of you with San Diego’s beautiful harbor and marina as the backdrop.  Thank you, as well, for that rediculously delicious cupcake from Extraordinary Desserts in Little Italy–if only I could eat all of my meals there :P

Laura and Bill got married in Our Lady of the Rosary in Little Italy.  It’s ceilings adorned with scenes from the Bible lent a gravity to their ceremony that made it all the more richly meaningful to the couple.   Some of my favorite moments are right after the ceremony when the couple is let out into the world as man and wife.  The intensity of Laura’s gaze at Bill was just an incredible sight to see.  You could literally see all the emotions and passion of their relationship together culminate in her eyes.  She let her ineffable gaze do the talking.

Not many couples can claim to have been forced to walk the plank by pirates at the their wedding, but Laura and Bill can chalk this up to one of the many hilarious highlights of their special day.  Apparently their was a pirate ship tour near the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina where the couple had their wedding reception, and these guys were all-too willing to embellish their roles as they Yarrrrred the wedding party down the plank…

I always love hearing the emotionally charged and often gut-wrenchingly hilarious speeches, and this wedding was no exception.  I seriously wish I had a recording of Bill’s best man’s speech, because I think nearly everyone peed their pants at the jokes and wise-cracks he told about growing up with Bill and the way Bill fiercely represented his So-Cal roots at the Nor-cal soccer camp where they became best friends.

Big thanks to the wedding vendors that made their special day possible:
Dress by M Bride Salon

Cake – Edelweiss European Bakery

Kicks – Wedding Band

Venue: Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina

Yesterday we went to the San Diego Hardrock Hotel & the San Diego Convention Center to do a bridal fashion shoot with Sanja. I was super stoked, as i absolutely LOVE shooting bridal fashion. I could seriously spend days shooting at the SD Hardrock Hotel and not run out of locations that would make any photographer DROOL. I had originally planned to bring along my strobes to light Sanja, but the natural lighting was simply too good to pass up. Earlier forecasts of rain meant that the city was going to be swallowed up in the clouds. WOOT! I love shooting in overcast conditions, as the clouds diffuse the light like a giant softbox. Since the SD Hardrock Hotel is literally less than a block from my live/work loft, I decided to bring my dog Chopper along to guard my equipment while I was shooting. As always, Chopper made a cameo in my photoshoot. I told him to pretend he was the regal-looking Great Dane from Lady Gaga’s Pokerface video. Offended that I would even suggest such an unthinkable thing, Chopper walked off to sniff the fascinating smell that was calling his name from afar. LOL.
